Katelynn De Marco completed her Juris Doctor at the University of Western Ontario, Faculty of Law in 2017 where she earned an award for academic excellence. Following law school, she completed her articles with a prominent law firm in Toronto and was called to the Bar in 2018. Katelynn previously earned a Bachelor of Nursing from Griffith University in Australia, where she earned three awards for academic excellence. Katelynn graduated with high distinction; a recognition awarded to the top 5% of university graduates.
Katelynn started working in healthcare system in 2007. She has worked in various roles, including as a Registered Nurse. During the COVID-19 pandemic, while working as a lawyer full time, Katelynn returned part time to nursing to help with the nursing shortage. Katelynn’s experience with the health care system lends itself to her legal practice and puts her at an advantage when dealing with the complexities of medical litigation.
Katelynn has always had a keen interest in health care, so advocating for people injured through negligence was a natural transition from her nursing career. Since 2018, Katelynn’s practice has concentrated largely on medical negligence. Katelynn enjoys advocating for the legal rights of her clients, and has done so in various levels of court, including the superior and divisional courts.
Katelynn was named as one of London’s Twenty under 40 Award Recipients in 2020 for her contributions to the legal profession and exceptional leadership in the community. She is also a Master of Law (LLM) Candidate at Western Law where her graduate thesis focuses on the intersection of Health Law and Civil Procedure. Katelynn has volunteered extensively, both locally and internationally, including in Australia and Africa.
Katelynn is an invited Lecturer at Western University addressing students in the Health Science and Law faculties. Her lectures focus on medical negligence and litigation practice.
When not engaged with her legal practice, Katelynn enjoys spending time with her young family. She is an avid reader who enjoys travelling, as well as pursuing creative endeavours like writing and painting.
