Michael Hodgins

Mike comes from a family of nurses, who helped foster his desire to help people who have been hurt. In law school he developed a passion for advocacy, and was active in competitive mooting. He competed in the Bertha W. Wilson constitutional law moot, and won the top oralist award in Windsor Law’s Thomas G. Zuber moot. Mike also received awards for his academic performance in constitutional and contract law and later worked as a teaching and research assistant in these fields. Mike began applying his academic and advocacy skills to helping the vulnerable early on in his legal career, volunteering as a student with Windsor Law’s Community Legal Aid program where he fought for the rights of those who could not afford legal representation elsewhere.

Mike moved to London in 2018 and articled at a prominent full-service firm downtown. The more walks he took along the Thames, the more he fell in love with our city, and he and his partner are now proud to call London home. Mike went on to practice civil litigation with a focus on personal injury and medical malpractice in west London before joining MD Lawyers. Mike now exclusively works for clients that have been injured due to someone else’s negligence, and they benefit from his passion and expertise.

Mike has appeared in front of the Superior Court of Justice, Ontario Court of Justice, Criminal Injuries Compensation Board, and Small Claims Court. He has also been involved in matters that have gone before the Ontario Court of Appeal, Licensing and Appeals Tribunal, Ontario Human Rights Tribunal, and College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. With the team at MD Lawyers, Mike’s practice includes medical negligence, nursing home negligence, occupiers liability, and motor vehicle collisions. Mike prides himself on taking an approach that thoughtfully considers all of the relevant legal issues early on, which allows him to develop a plan of action focused on getting the best results for our clients. When dealing with an injured person the first question he asks is “how would I want my own loved one to be treated by their lawyer in this situation?” and acts accordingly.

Mike believes in the importance of community involvement, and volunteers with London Lawyers feed the Hungry and other local associations. When not in the office or volunteering, Mike enjoys reading, especially historical fiction, and going for hikes in London and the surrounding area. Mike is also an avid sports fan who expects a Stanley Cup parade in Toronto any day now and a highly enthusiastic (but only moderately skilled) jeopardy player.
